SOME WORDS OF COMFORT FOR THE RFP NEWBIE

The old hands at RFP make it look so easy – while I run out of time for the five shots…

This ‘problem’ in effect provides its own answer.  The ‘old hands’ have been shooing the RFP series times for years, and practice makes perfect.

Unless you are coming to RFP from an ISSF Standard Pistol with its 10-seconds series, the 8, 6 and 4-seconds RFP series times can certainly become intimidating – and this CAN (if you let it!) become your main concern, to the detriment of your RFP performance:

1.      The objective is not merely to get five shots away in 8, 6 or 4-seconds: the objective is to get five WELL EXECUTED shots away in 8, 6 or 4-seconds:

2.      The ‘basics’ apply equally to RFP;

a.      Stance>

b.     Natural Point of Aim>

c.      Balance>,

d.     Grip>,

e.      Sight picture>

f.        Trigger control>.

g.      Follow through>.

The first three of these ‘basics’ are EXACTLY the same as you would to set up for a series of slow fire precision.  You have a minute (no real rush there) to set yourself up for any ISSF 25m series.

The second three are a little different for RFP, but JUST AS ESSENTIAL!

3.      Stance

You were undoubtedly told during your probation period training to stand with your feet about shoulder width apart with your weight evenly distributed between both feet; some things never change and this applies when you start RFP!

4.      ‘Natural Point of Aim’

5.      Balance

You were undoubtedly told during your probation period training to stand with your weight evenly distributed between both feet; some things never change and this applies when you start RFP!

6.      Grip

7.      Sight Picture

8.      Trigger Control

9.      Follow Through
