ABOUT THIS PAGE
This page is an introduction to a
newbie RFP shooter to one aspect of the world of ‘mental training’.
What is ‘Mental Training’?
In the context of this webpage,
‘mental training’ is setting your brain up to produce the desired RFP outcome
– i.e. to get five WELL
EXECUTED shots away in 8, 6 or
4-seconds! This will have several aspects,
and the way being discussed here relates to two critical factors in RFP;
‘stance’ and ‘movement’.
What differs from other ISSF pistol events?
For the RFP event, there is not
only the ‘movement’ of elevating the pistol from the Ready position (shared
with the other 25m pistol events), bur:
a)
This
elevation must be achieved far quicker, and
b)
You
will have to traverse the pistol from target to target.
Throughout the series (including
the follow through for the last target in the series), you will need to
retain your stance.
Stance
The item that remains constant
throughout the RFP series is the position of your feet. Undoubtedly, throughout your progression as
an RFP shooter, the positioning of your feet will be changed; either from
your own preferences, or (preferably) following instruction from a coach.
As a starting point, your feet should be about your shoulder width
apart, with your weight shared equally
a) between the two, and
b) between the heel and front of
the feet.
The angle to the firing line at
which you place your feet can be similar to that you use for any precision
event or stage.
As mentioned at the start of
this paragraph, this is a starting point, and a coach will ‘fine tune’ the positioning of your feet
and the balance distribution!
